Google earth goes tropical.

Since the release of Google Earth the search for a tropical holiday destination with bonefish (or other tropical speed monsters) possibilities has become much easier. The program helps you to recognise flats, deep drop offs and much more.

Hereby a screenshot from an island in the caribbean with some remarks by me:

1. This could be a very interesting place with flats, but to be certain we have to zoom in. After I have recognised such an area I look for hotels, etc. because if it is a busy place there are jetskies, swimming people - no bonefish. Otherwise there are possibilities, look at the reef!

2. Drop off zone nearby coast. Possibilities to catch big fish like tuna with the flyrod and deep sinking lines. But these places are not so easy to recognise (although there are more places like deep drop offs than flats) so try to find information about this. Because there are more normal fishermen than flyfishermen you will find easier information by searching in these forums.

3. Difficult spot to see if it is interesting. There could be a flatzone, but also just a beach and nothing more.

4. Most probably a beach. Most of the time not so interesting but in the early morning and late evening fish can come to the beach, such as jacks & tarpon.

5. Very interesting place to fish with (heavy) sinking lines and clousers. Chance to catch different species and big fish. Definitely a spot to try...
