Carp fever.
The search for Carp on the fly in the Netherlands. After more than 15 years of flyfishing in the Netherlands, I was looking for a new challenge. I really would like to see the backing again, it is time for strong, powerfull fish ...... it's time for flyfishing on carp. Inspired by postings on a dutch messageboard from Sjoerd last year, together with some video's on the internet I tied some flies and went to different lakes in the neighbourhood. For flyfishing on carp you need to know if there are enough carp in a lake, so the chance to hook a carp is possible. Because we are flyfishing on sight it is also necessary to go on a nice warm day with sunshine, so you can see the carp slowly swimming in the sun, or nearby reeds / waterplants.
In my opinion there are 2 types of flyfishing on carp by sight.
1. When it is a warm, beautiful day sometimes carp is swimming slowly just below the surface. Thats the time there are possibilities to catch them. But be careful, because one miscast and the carps are away. Fish highly concentrated with buzzers and wait.
2. Nearby, I have found a lake with kneedeep shallow water. (bonefish memories) Together with my polaroid I wait for fish, who come once in a while to feed on the shallow water on dragonflynimphs, etc. Leave your fly and pray that the carp comes in the neighbourhood. Sometimes it helps to move the fly a little bit, but not too much!
